Bacteriology

PipettingThe CAHFS Bacteriology service provides diagnostic testing for bacterial, fungal, and parasite detection and identification in clinical and environmental samples for animal and zoonotic pathogens.

CAHFS offers:

  • Two American College of Veterinary Microbiology board certified Bacteriologists available for consultation and interpretation of results
  • Experienced and nationally recognized technicians for providing accurate and reliable test results
  • Testing methodologies that adhere to national and international standards for accuracy
  • Molecular (PCR) and mass spectrometry-based (MALDI-TOF) bacterial identification for improved turn-around time and accuracy 
  • Utilization of classical culture techniques for the identification and characterization of common, new or mutating organisms
  • Antimicrobial susceptibility analysis
  • Tritrichomonas foetus culture and PCR detection for adherence to the California Trichomonosis Control Program***
  • Approved testing for Contagious Equine Metritis to meet import and export requirements
  • Approved testing for National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP)
  • Bacterial testing in pets and other species for feed related contaminations as a member of the FDA-CVM Veterinary Laboratory Investigation and Response Network (VetLIRN)
